Lizzy Kalal – Kindergarten
I graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. Prior to U of I, I attended Willowbrook High School. I am also a proud alumni of St. John’s!
Experience in Teaching:
I graduated last year and spent my first year out of school as a 1-on-1 aide for a student at Lowell Elementary School in Wheaton, IL. During my time at the University of Illinois, I student taught in Preschool at University Primary School in Champaign, IL and in Kindergarten at St. Joe Elementary in St. Joseph, IL.
Years at St. John’s:
Although this is my first year teaching at St. John’s, I attended 1st-8th grades here!
Favorite Bible Verse:
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
I am blessed to be surrounded by an unbelievably supportive family. My mom teaches preschool at St. Peter Lutheran School in Schaumburg, and my dad teaches P.E. here at St. John’s! Previously a trader at the Board of Trade, my older brother, Ben, has recently decided to change his career path and is going back to school to become a teacher. My sister-in-law, Collette, is in her second year of residency at Loyola Hospital.
Throughout my time at the University of Illinois, I spent time in a vast variety of schools gaining experience and practicum hours. However, teaching at St. John’s has been my favorite by far. I love teaching in a Christ centered school because the atmosphere and camaraderie that you find is truly one of a kind. I can honestly say that no school I have ever worked in has made me feel as welcomed and confident as St. John’s has. Everyone is supportive and is truly like a second family, and it is comforting to go to work every day knowing that everyone knows “It’s still all about Jesus” and wants to spread that message to our students and the world!
One fun fact:
In my free time I enjoy doing arts and crafts, playing sports, and running! This past summer, I ran my first half marathon.
